I'M PROUD OF YOU

"Im Proud of You, Tim"

Mister RogersMister Rogers via last.fm

I seem to be on a spiritual journey these days. I went to a store the other day (it was actually a Dollar Store) and finding a sale on books, I ran across 2 books that intrigued me. The first one is "I'm Proud of You," by Tim Madigan. It is the story of Tim's friendship with Fred Rogers (From Mister Rogers Neighborhood). Tim Madigan a Journalist, in 1995 for the Fort Worth Star-Telegram, doing a story on Fred Rogers, and it depicts how their relationship grew over the years. It is a tender and moving story, but what left me with such confusion was the way that Fred Rogers always asked for Tim Madigan to pray for him, and when Steve Madigan, Tim's brother, was dying from Cancer; Fred asked Steve to pray for him also. Left with this confusion, but feeling that I was about to learn something new and crucial to my spiritual awakening, I began to read the second book. "The Prayer of Jabez, by Dr. Bruce Wilkinson with David Koopp, a small book about a passage in the bible where during a long list of genealogy, is a little verse (1Chronicles 4:9), and also verse 10) Verse 9 which reads "And Jabez was more honourable than his brethren: and his mother called his name Jabez, saying "because I bore him with sorrow." (Wilkinson refers to it as "born in pain, which is the Hebrew translation for the word Jabez)verse 10 reads "and Jabez called on the God of Israel, saying Oh that thou wouldest bless me indeed, and enlarge my coast, and that thine hand might be with me, and that thou wouldest keep me from evil, that it may not grieve me! And God granted him that which he requested."
The book goes on to relate a fable called:
Mr. Jones Goes to Heaven
It tells how when Mr. Jones enters heaven and Peter gives him a tour, Mr. Jones notices a building that Peter has not shown him. Mr. Jones aks Peter why he did not show him that building, Peter says, "Oh, You don't want to see that one." Mr. Jones asks again at the end of the tour to see the building. Peter relents and lets him in. Mr. Jones sees a room full of shelves filled with white boxes with red ribbons around them, he notices that they all have names on them. He asks Peter if there is one with his name on it. When Peter says, "yes, there is." Mr Jones finds his box and opens it. When he looks inside he sees all the blessings that God had stored for him during his time on earth but...Mr. Jones never asked him for them."
Every show I watched on television this weekend all carried pretty much the same message about asking God for "your' blessings. Jack Canfield refers to this as "reverse paranoia, and I see it as the "Law of Attraction, alive and well and living inside of me.
If you want to purchase either of these books they are on top this post, but check your "Dollar Store" first.
And please remember "To Pray for Me,"

GRATITUDE

"If I die tonight in my sleep:
let me have hugged and told my children that I love them,
let me have told my mother how much she is loved and appreciated,
let me have helped a friend or better, a stranger,
let me have worked very hard these past hours in the name of my personal progress, and, let me have gone to sleep with the knowledge that I did the very best I could do today.

helpful Information and Updates

Greater Boston Walk Now for Autism Speaks
Sunday, October 10th
www.walknowforautism.org/greaterboston

The dog days of summer are here, but October 18th is right around the corner. We are gearing up for another great walk!  Last year, with your support, the Greater Boston Walk raised $1.3 million to fund research, community resource provider grants, and many family services intiatives. We want to be just as successful this year and need your help to do that.

To help with your fundraising:

  • Make sure you and ALL of your team members are registered!  Kids can fundraise too!  In fact, kids can be amazingly successful and we will be providing information on a proven technique involving having kids write letters.
  • Update your fundraising webpage! It has been proven that people are more likely to donate when a page is personalized. Having a picture of your family and telling the story of why you walk are two of the most effective tools to utilize.
  • Setting a fundraising goal can also help! One team set a goal of $8,030 because that is the number of days their family has been affected by autism. This inspired others to give and the team reached well past their goal! Other goal setting ideas could include birthdays ($1,125 for 11/25) or the cost to cover therapy expenses for one month. Let everyone know what your goal means to you!
  • Use your email center to send a message to those in your address book. There are letters available to get you started, but be sure to personalize it by adding in an update on your family and why you are walking! Sending "Thank You" messages to donors are important too and also available in the email center.
  • Reach out to people who have donated to you in the past. You can find a list of donors from 2007 and 2008 in your Personal Headquarters. To access this list click on the "Reports" tab and select "Past Event Donation Statistics."

An Amazing Kick-Off Event!
This year's Walk Kick-Off event was an evening of incredible inspiration and lots of valuable information.  We are very grateful to our speakers, 14 year old Rebecca Ackermann who captains a very successful team, Doing it For Dave, in honor of her twin brother and Mike Mayes, a young adult with autism, who was non-verbal for many years and who is now attending college and providing leadership and inspiration to others.  We are also very grateful to fabulous Ch. 5 News Anchor Randy Price who joined us once again and is always a great friend to our families, volunteers and fundraisers.
